Professional Background
For nearly nine years, Rick worked as the sole writer for the American Health Information Management Association in Chicago. He was responsible for communications and marketing for a variety of Health IT-related publications, courses, certifications, and advocacy. This work gave him an interest in and passion for the efficiency of merging technology with quality patient care.

Motivation
 “I think that the bottom line of transitioning to EHRs is that it will improve the care of patients and make healthcare more efficient and patient-centered. I like being a part of that.”

Personal
Rick grew up in eastern Ohio and spent most of his adult life in Chicago; he currently lives in Seattle with his domestic partner and their Boston Terrier. He has one son, Nicholas, who lives in Montreal. In his spare time, he writes horror/romance/suspense novels and has close to twenty books in print. He also loves to read, watch movies, attend live theater, and enjoy the Pacific Northwest outdoors. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH with Bachelor’s Degrees in English and Mass Communications.
