Professional Background
Michelle has worked in the Seattle non-profit healthcare sector for the past 15 years, and has been a practicing Physician Assistant at Seattle Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) for the past nine years. She developed an interest in medical informatics when she took on the lead clinician role for a large FQHC EHR implementation. This experience—coupled with her understanding of the complexities involved in practicing medicine in today’s primary care environment—has enabled her to serve as a well-rounded guide for area practices striving to improve their quality of care by integrating health IT into their practice.

Motivation
“In the past 20 years in there has been an explosion of new pharmaceuticals, interventions, treatments and guidelines to help Washington and Idaho clinicians provide the very highest quality medical care the world has to offer, but advances in medical care can only help our patients if we are able to quickly determine which interventions are helpful. Health IT can be used as a tool to sort through information quickly and efficiently, allowing clinicians to spend less time searching for things like referrals, lab results, and date of last mammogram and more time caring for their patients and their families. The thoughtful integration of health IT into a practice can improve quality of care and position us for participating in primary care reform efforts like patient centered medical homes.”

Personal
Michelle grew up in Portland, OR and now lives in Seattle, WA. In her spare time, she enjoys kayaking and making ceramics. She did her undergraduate work at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, and completed her Masters at the George Washington University, Washington, DC.
